Notes

I think I have fallen in love with Susanna’s crescent shawls and beads! This was a sweet little knit. I will definitely do it again … soon!

While in between clues for Susanna’s mystery KAL, I decided to work on this design of hers b/c I’ve heard so much good stuff about it. Using Opal sock yarn in stash, hoping it will be enough to complete. Yarn feels pretty scratchy right now.

No nupps for me just yet, I’m not real impressed with how they look, and I’m growing rather addicted to beads, so beads it is for this project. I’m just using Hobby Lobby’s Bead Treasures size 6 bagged beads for this to see how they work. Did a bead every 3 sts on row 1 and will put beads on the spine between YO’s and where the nupps should go.

10.01.11 - Crochet cast on with a K hook to achieve the looseness of a large cast on.

10.02.11 - Took a few hours it seems like to do row 1 with a bead every 3rd stitch!!! On the CDD, I slipped 1st st to right needle, put bead on center stitch, put 1st st back on left and then did stitch.

10.03.11 - Working on row 5 and realized I have beads too close together even when yarn is stretched out, I was putting them every other row. So partway thru row 5, I started dropping down to row 3 beads and removing them as I would come to the correct stitch. Still some at beginning of row, guess I’ll have to figure out a good way to smash them out w/o smashing the surrounding ones. This is gonna take awhile!

10.04.11 - Got row 5 done tonight, still have 20 beads to smash or remove somehow. Need to think on this. Am considering trying to drop down and remove w/o tinking back to make it happen, but just slipping sts until I get where I need and working down and removing bead and then working back up. We’ll see if I have time tomorrow to try. I’m a little nervous about smashing the beads, they are glass and I don’t want them to cut the yarn where I smash them.

10.05.11 - Well, I tried to smash the beads, got 2 out successfully and on the 3rd one, it cut the yarn as I suspected. So……. ripped it out and will start fresh. Stink. But I’ll start wiser with my bead placement (every 6 stitches on row 1 instead of every 3, every 4th row instead of every other row on the YO spines and as charted where the nupps are supposed to be). Everyone says it always goes faster when you start over! Hope so. No deadline, so will just enjoy the process.

10.15.11 - It’s going well, I’m well into the short rows, looks like I’ll have plenty of yarn. I think this is going to be a really pretty Annis.

10.16.11 - Done with my short rows and as I am still waiting for my Mystery KAL 3rd skein of yarn to get to me from another wonderful Raveler, I shall continue on with my Annis. I think I am going to use the Top Edge Lace chart from the KAL for my Annis. I have plenty of yarn.

Finished and blocking! Wow, that went fast. I did do the KAL top edge. Needed 183 sts, I had 185 so did an extra decrease at each end as I worked. Bound off with an size 8.

27 grams of yarn left over, could have used 8’s if I wanted to.

10.17.11 - I wore it! It was a tiny bit scratchy, but the Eucalan wash really softened it up. Had it on a couple hours and I did great. I think I’m in love!! :-)
