Pattern calls for lace weight, but I’m use a light fingering weight. Started out with 1 less repeat, but decided I’d rather have scarf too wide than too long, so pulled out after a couple inches and started over and cast on as per pattern.
Crochet cast on 93 sts with an H hook, hoping that is big enough to handle stretching when blocking.
Used 6 grams of yarn for Chart 1 and 4 garter rows, will be sure and leave this amount at end to finish off other end.
8.27.11 - After 4th chart 2 repeat - 6.5 grams per repeat. Based on this, I should get 21 Chart 2 repeats plus Chart 1 at beginning and end. We’ll see how close I am!
That 1 extra stitch at the beginning of every RS row throws me for a loop sometimes! Especially on row 7, when I need to move my markers! Gotta remember to count correctly on first repeat.
Yarn is slippery, but oh so pretty. Doing ok with my Harmony needles.
9.1.11 - Finally finished my first ball of yarn, seemed to take forever. I have 7 Chart 2 repeats so far.
Things I learned today -
-
to have extra markers handy and then leave my markers on my lifelines so I can more easily use the little key hole in my Knit Picks interchangeable needle tip to pull the life line thru as I knit. Also, if I have to use my lifeline, my markers are already there and in place!

On row 6 of Chart 2, I moved the applicable markers on the purl row so I didn’t need to move them on row 7 during the chart pattern. I needed the marker to be one stitch earlier than when I came to it, so I just put in a new marker and then removed the existing marker 1 stitch later, then used that marker for the next new spot 1 stitch early and so on. Ingenious!! :-)
Both of these things were learned today when I was browsing one of my lace forums. I love Ravelry! :-)
The yarn has been lovely to work with, even tho slippery. Just wound my second cake, no knots, no imperfections in either one. We’ll see about #3 when I get to it.
9.8.11 - I have 15 Chart 2 repeats and I’m almost ready for my 3rd skein. Had tons of yarn barf, but got it untangled and wound. As with the other 2 skeins, no knots, no imperfections. And oh, how soft! Feels so lovely knit up. I’m loving this yarn.
9.24.11 - Done! I used all but 2 grams of yarn. Had 22 chart 2 repeats. Used a size 10 needle for bind off to keep it loose. Tried 8’s and 9’s and they just seemed too tight.
Struggled with how to block the bind off end. It wanted to V at the YO’s, but the cast on end V’s at the dec. I played with it both ways - forcing the bind off end to have the V at the dec, but it just was so shallow and I couldn’t seem to force it to deepen, so went with what it wanted to do naturally and made the V at the YO’s. Put several pix up of the ends before and after blocking.
Size before blocking - 16” by 46”
While pinned - 21.5” by 68”
After blocking - 20” by 66”
