Notes

8/10/2014 First photo of yoke, provisional CO at neck needs short rows or just edging, perhaps I-cord. I think it’s pretty, but even though the design is my own adaptation it just doesn’t feel like ME. Perhaps my niece Christi will like it?

If sweater is to go to Christi it will be reversible front-to-back, which will distribute wear in this more fragile lightweight yarn, and I’ll probably use I-cord edging at the neck for durability. It would also be classic fit, no shaping. If it were for me, it would have short rows at neck and elbows, Idunn by Ragga Eiriksdotter, for more elegant fit and use Customfit shaping.

Colorwork rows #8, rest #7, single strand

Top down, beginning with provisional CO 96 sts, omitting first set of inc on chart so neck won’t be tight. Use child’s chart but for adult size, 32 repeats, 16 repeats of chart. Worked increases as shown in chart, 192 sts after last row of chart. In second row of MC inc 1 st ea 3 sts,i.e. 3 sts --->4. 256 sts final count for yoke gives me correct size when measured against other sweaters. This number was calculated from my gauge and other adult yoke sweaters. Worked even in MC until yoke measured 9.5”, about 2” past last inc round.

Made other-than-white dominant color in yoke except for white/green rows where I wanted the heavier lett lopi, only green color lopi I liked and was readily available, to be the less dominant. I should have realized that second set of green, working from top would be visually less intense, but I’m not ripping back.

Bottom, sleeve, and neck edges were finished with I-cord for durability. Hip is perhaps a bit wide, but this can be remedied after she tries it on. I plan on doing a row of sc on inside to stabilize ribbing.

I wore this sweater as a travel sweater when I attended Wool Week 2014 and traveled in Scotland for 10 days besides, and came to like it a lot. I haven’t washed it yet; I’m saving that for a lesson for Christy to assure she knows how to care for it and won’t put it in the washer/dryer.
