Natasja’s new “grand mosaic” is anything but ordinary. It’s great to be one of the first to knit it as a lucky tester.

I’m using yarn from my stash.
Les Garçons British Sport is a coarser than the fingering given in the pattern, but I like the softness and the end result.
The colours I have chosen are very muted and the result will be almost neutral. The dark green is beautiful and with the greyish-brown is even visible in the mosaic.

I use different needles - 3.75mm for mosaics and 3.5mm for Cross patterns.

Before starting the border I have used up:
MC - 91g - 300m
CC1 - 65g - 215m
CC2 - 21g - 70m

So for the border:
MC - 260m
CC1 - (total) 63m + 35m
CC2 - 128m

I made a mistake that I didn’t bother to fix. I discover it only after I have knitted a few rows of the border pattern - I had missed the last two rows of the centre panel in CC1.

I knew what yarns I was knitting Xyla with, but the colours were a bit “dull” together. At the same time I didn’t want to order anything new. I had some lighter natural yarns that I worked into the border pattern to liven it up. Now I am happy!

Xyla’s last rows are long, really long. But they don’t take long to knit, because you want to finish the shawl as quickly as possible.
The Xyla is just the right size to fit comfortably around your neck.

Natasja is a very experienced mosaic designer. Xyla’s shawl is eye-catching, a nice size and exciting project for its knitter.
