At last I cast on for this. I have a feeling this is going to require patience and perseverance in spades. While winding the ball the cake came off the winder, so the yarn is going to tangle as I knit. I cast on at least 3 times and ripped back twice. Somehow I still managed to get the increase row wrong, but rather than rip back I am just going to do a second increase row because the yarn doesn’t look like it would fare too well if I started yet again.
So then, I got that worked out and knit my way through the first C16B round… Only to find that I was off by 8 sts going alllll the way back to the first repeat in the round. Fixed that and am now happily knitting away.
1st 12 rows done (12/13)
All finished! The decreases were a total pain to knit, but worth it even to the last 3 rounds. I definitely recommend finishing the hat on DPNs rather than 2 circa or magic loop. It was brutal and I did drop 2 stitches when I was closing off the hat at the top. I was able to catch one right away but the second took some work and ingenuity. If I’d used 3 or 4 dpns it wouldn’t have happened.
Also, I was worried that I would run out of yarn and only did 4.5 repeats of the cable pattern. I MIGHT have been able to make it work if I’d done all 5, but it would have been close. I only have 10g of the yarn left at the end.
