Notes

Cast on 84 sts with 2.25mm needles. Use DPNs for first few rounds. Knit 2x2 ribbed cuff on 2mm needles, 24 rounds. Purl 2 rows, decreasing 6 sts evenly around the sock (78 sts). Knit 4x2 ribbed leg on 2.5mm needles.

Finally making second sock.

Oh no, the ribbing came out too small. Frogged. Not sure what to do.

09-04-2020

Trying again on second sock. I think my tension was tighter using magic loop, whis is why the last cuff I knitted came out small. Using DPNs this time. Fingers crossed!

10-04-2020

Still no good. Sigh.

Finally matched cuff on first sock by using 2.25mm needles and knitting tightly.

13-04-2020

Nope, it was cuff on 2.25mm not tightly. And 2.5mm for rest.

28-04-2020

More nope. Had to go up two needle sizes to get second sock the same size as first sock. These elastic cotton sock yarn blends can be difficult to tension.

25-07-2020

24 rounds after end of gusset stitch decreases, then switch to contrast colour.

06-08-2020

The blue socks are finally finished as a belated birthday gift for my dad in August 2020.

24-08-2020

Restarting second pair (grey and orange). I want to start the contrast toe slightly sooner on this pair.

Cuff on 2mm. Leg on 2.5mm. Heel over 34 sts.

02-09-2020

The first black and orange sock felt like it took forever! (I did have to reknit the leg and heel flap and then the toe turned out too long and I had to redo that too, so it was really 1.75 of a sock’s worth.) Hope second one goes smoothly.

Count 18 slip-stitch rows on heel flap.

06-09-2020

Onto second orange toe. To make sure the toes did not match, I knitted from the inside of the ball (reversing the colour sequence).

07-09-2020

Finished knitting – hurrah! Just need to weave in ends and photograph.

Reversing the variegated yarn direction didn’t work that well because one colour ended up in the same place on both socks. How annoying! From now on I will just start the second sock from a different place in the repeat.
