The pattern is a vintage one from Mary Maxim - you can find it or similar ones on etsy or ebay.
How did I make the horns? Why, duplicate stitch, of course! Here’s a tutorial video I made on the topic. For more tutorial videos, visit www.kylewilliam.com/videos.html.
2/2/11 confirmed colors and ordered yarn online through mary maxim.
2/8/11 mary maxim changed one color to “natural” and confirmed stock
2/16/11 recipient sizing:
36” bust, 38” with ease
shoulder to waist 19”
shoulder to sleeve 21”
3/7/11 swatch approved… time to start knitting!
3/17/11 sleeve #1 completed
3/28/11 sleeve #2 completed
5/8/11 after knitting the back once and realizing about 3/4 of the way through it that it was tragically the wrong size, and ripping it back, I am happy to announce that the back is completed and is the correct size!
6/3/11 completed left front (This project is taking a while mostly because every time I knit a piece I look at it, decide I need to change something, rip it back, and start over. Seriously; I could have knit 2 of these already with the amount of rip-out and re-do that has happened in this project… but it’s worth it!)
6/8/11 buttons arrived! Purchased from THIS etsy shop! Also finished the second front (all pieces are knitted!) Now it’s time to weave in ends, do some swiss darning (for the horns, eyes, and other random spots that need touch ups)… then blocking, assembly, collar and it’ll be done!
6/11/11 assembled the sweater (sleeves still need to be seamed up) and started the collar. I am modifying the collar as well to fit the custom sizing of this piece.
6/19/11 finished adding buttons and seaming the last sleeve. A light steaming and this piece is all complete! I’m looking forward to giving it to Kate, hopefully on Monday night!
6/20/11 delivered and fits! Feels good to have this completed!
