Once you start, it’s actually quite simple. Awesome results plus well-written, simple instructions make this pattern a winner!

Garter stitch is more stretchy than stocking stitch so I went a size smaller than usual. I’m going to use size D for the foot and size I for the 7-1/2” length from the top of the sock to the heel instead of size D, which is 5-1/2” long. My stitch counts won’t match the pattern numbers.

I’m already 25% done.

I’m 50% finished! The socks used 34.6g. I’m only working 8 rows in the centre section instead of 12 to make up the difference in my row count.

Done! Now to do the grafting. I make a flap to use when I graft, doing the first row in pattern, then stocking stitch for at least 1” long so you can hold it. You fold the flaps to the inside, hold the flaps, then follow the path of the flap colour to graft the sides together. There are no needles to work around and I find it hard to get nice tension working around the needles. But the big bonus for me is if I make a mistake and have to back up, the stitches are obviously no longer on your needles. With the flaps you can back up and your stitches are still secure. Done the socks! The socks used 65.5g (260.6m/285.6y). Before blocking they’re 7” long from the cuff to the heel x 7-1/2” in circumference. The foot is 7-1/2” long x 7-1/2” in circumference.
After blocking the socks are 6-3/4” long from cuff to the heel x 6-3/4” in circumference. The foot is 7-1/4” long x 6-3/4 in circumference.

They fit perfectly!

My blocked row gauge is out slightly. It’s 64 rows/4” (16 rows/“) and the pattern’s gauge is 68 rows/4” (17 rows/“). For my size there are 56 rows, but because you start at the cuff, then down the back, around the toe, then up the top to the cuff you end up with 1 row equaling 2 rows of width. 112 rows divided by 17 rows/“ is 6.588” wide. 104 rows divided by 16 rows/“ is 6.5” wide. That’s a difference of 8 rows, which is actually 4 rows. I’ll adjust it in the centre section.

The balls weighed 49.7g and 46.6g.
