The colours are running in opposite directions. I’m going to knit them TAAT.
I finished the main squares. They’re 8” in diameter along the diagonal lines. I worked 54 rounds (55 sts/quarter). They used 32.7g - 64.3g left. The diagonal lines don’t stretch as much as the rest of the square so it’s tight there on my foot, otherwise I could’ve made them a little smaller.
For the toes, I’m going to use the outside strand of the balls, leaving the inside strand attached to the squares to use later. The colours will run in the opposite direction to the main squares.
I finished the toes. They used 7.4g - 41.1g left.
Because I needed an 8” square, they were already long enough (my feet are 8-3/4” long, and are 8-1/4” around the ball of my foot). Because of this, I only worked rounds 1 and 2 using the attached yarn from the centre of the balls one time so it’s set up for the legs. I switched to using the yarn from the outside of the ball and both colours matched what I ended with using the centres of the balls. The ribbing starts about 1” above the bottom of my heel.
I’m going to work the ribbing twisted and use 1.75mm needles. I might have to decrease when I get to my ankles because they’re only 7-3/4” in circumference. The ribbing seems to be just snug enough to not need decreases. It’s tight to pull the ribbing over my high instep, but then they fit so well. Dropping a needle size plus working the ribbing twisted worked.
After 8 pattern reps, the ribbing is about 4-3/4” long. Each rep uses about 2.4g. I have 7.7g and 7.6g left. I figured out that I should need 5.8g to finish the last part, which means I don’t have enough for another rep.
On my foot, the back is about 1” shorter than the front so I’m going to bind off 2 sts at the beginning of each row so the back doesn’t end up too tall. If I bind off one st at the beginning of each row, it’d take 53 rows (about 4” long, 3” longer than the front). By binding off 2 sts instead it’ll take 35 rows (about 2-2/3” long, 1-2/3” longer than the front).
I finally finished the socks, in between Christmas baking. Doing 2 bind offs instead of 1 worked perfectly, the back isn’t too long compared to the front. The socks weigh 93.4g. There’s 2g and 1.6g left. Total 3.6g left.
Before blocking, the ribbing is 7-1/2” long at the back and 4-1/2” long at the front of the leg. The back of the leg is 2-5/8” longer than the front from the point of working flat. The circumference of the socks along the diagonal lines of the foot square is 8-1/2”. The foot length along the diagonal of the foot square is 8-1/4” long to the ribbing. The toe square is 4” wide along the diagonal lines.
