My second pair of socks!
I knit the cuff 4cm (1-1/2”) long. The colour sequence is going in opposite directions on the socks, which is fine with me. They used 9g (44.9g + 44.6g =89.5g left).
After the cuff, for all sizes, you’re instructed to shift the last stitch of each the 4 dpns to avoid a yo at the end of each needle. This is incorrect. Fixed the issue.
I knit the leg 6” long. I tried them on to make sure they fit over my high instep and they fit!
For the heel flap, after the 8 repeats, it was only 2-1/4” long. I knit 10 repeats and it’s 2-3/4” long. Now I need to work the heel turn.
For the heel turn, there was 1 stitch left over on each side after finishing complete rows. That won’t do. Fixed the issue. I have 20 sts remaining.
I knit 10 repeats of the heel flap to get a decent length so I needed to pick up 20 sts on each side. The 10 sts from the heel turn (half of the sts) plus the 20 gusset sts = 30 total sts. To get to the original 16 sts I need to decrease 14 sts (28 rounds). From the centre of the heel they’re about 4-1/2” long. I have 58.8g left.
Now I’m going to start the toe shaping. So close to finishing.
Because I’m knitting magic loop, I put needles 1 & 2 on side A and needles 3 & 4 on side B, except for the heel flap and gusset decreases. For doing the grafting, the instructions tell you to put needle 2 stitches with needle 1 stitches and needle 3 with needle 4!
This puts the decreases right in the middle on the top and bottom of your foot. That won’t do. I repositioned them on the last round to put the decreases at the sides of your foot. See my picture.
The socks used 73.1g (291m/318.7y). There’s 11.9 and 11.8g = 23.7g left.
Before blocking the foot is 9” long x 8” circumference. The leg is 10” long to the bottom of the heel flap x 8” circumference.
After blocking the foot is 8-1/2” long x 8-1/4’ circumference. The leg is 10” long x 7” circumference.
The balls weighed 49g and 49.5g for a total of 98.5g.
On 2.75mm needles, my gauge was 28 sts/4” wide x 32 rounds/3-5/16” long, so I’m going to use them. I’ll just have to knit more rounds to get the right length.
