Knit the back piece to the beginning of the sleeve shaping and measured. Despite apparently having the right width when I measured at an earlier point, my piece now seems to be 0.75-1” narrower and around 0.75-1” shorter than intended…
I may have been optimistic about my gauge (which I found a bit hard to measure given the cables), and I might actually be 1st and 1row too dense…
I’ll detach the current piece and soak it to see how that affects the size.

My gauge is definitely too tight, even after washing and laying flat to dry, so this cardigan might be slightly more fitted than loose. Perhaps wet blocking and pinning to size will get me the extra inch or so.
Also, the front panels are working up suspiciously quickly. Or maybe this is just an illusion due to the short rows. At any rate, I’ve finished the front left panel, and it looks like it’s about the right size.
Although as I’m typing this, I realized a small error I might have made. I second-guessed the pattern, and thought that I should knit the straight section after the neck shaping 2 rows higher to match the number of rows of the back panel. But I’m now realizing that that was probably not intended, since the sides of the back panel will be lower than the total height…

Seamed up shoulders and started collar. Picked up the recommended number of stitches for the neckline and back neck, but picked up 8 more sts each for both front straight sections (16 additional stitches total).

Completed all seaming and end-weaving, gave the final piece a soak, nervously put it in the washer to spin out, laid it out flat to dry, and snipped off all ends!
The piece fits pretty well, although the piece might have a bit less positive ease than intended (due to my gauge). We’ll have to see after I acquire some buttons.
