4/14/2012. The original pattern has this absolutely humongous neck and cuff, which I would never consent to wear, so I simplified it to a basic crew neck. I am making this sweater to wear with a particular scarf anyway and that huge neck would just get in the way. I am working on the sleeves (without the ribbing on the cuff), also in the round. Now that spring is here, however, I won’t have much time to knit - time for yard work.
2/12/12. Posting updated pics. Just another inch or two, and it will be time cast off for the sleeves. I have never worked a sweater that flew by so quickly before!
1/15/12. I am loving this pattern. It’s simple enough to not need to refer to the pattern, but not so simple that it’s boring to work on. As you can see from the pictures, I opted to work it in the round. Easier to calculate when no seams to mess up the cables!
1/9/12. Pattern calls for Bulky weight (7 wpi), but I’m using Aran weight (8wpi) instead. Ah well, I’m a tight knitter anyway, never can use the suggested needle size to get to gauge.
Gauge is 19 stitches and 18 rows = 4 inches in pattern; suggested needle size 10. Yardage 1250 - 1750 yards (1143 - 1600 m); S - XXL, 81-127 cm bust (31.8”-50” ).
Working with neutral colors isn’t something I usually enjoy, but I’m making an exception for this one. A dear friend gave me a royal purple and light silver silk scarf she picked up in Tunisia, and I want a sweater that will showcase the scarf, yet still have enough cables to make it interesting to knit. At the moment the plan is to modify the poloneck to a simple short boatneck. Will probably modify the sleeves to drop the ribbing at the cuffs, too. Might convert it from pieced to knit in the round; will decide tomorrow when I cast on!
1/27/2013 Finished this sometime during the summer, not sure of the exact date… fastest sweater I have ever made. And now that it’s finished, I have lost just enough weight to make it too big to be comfortable :( but can’t face frogging it just yet.
