Having finished one pair in the recommended 3-ply I’m trying another in 4-ply because it comes in a wider range of colours. This grey-green is quite close to the original pattern and more the colour I think my mum was looking for. I doubt they’ll be done by Christmas though.
January 4th: now done the legs and turned the heel. Not sure I’m wrapping stitches right: some sites suggest YO-slip-YO-slip, others slip-YO-slip-YO. I’ve been doing the latter, but while it’s even enough it does make the “seam” look very obvious. I’d try the other on the second sock but then they wouldn’t match, and that would be sillier still. Definitely getting better at DPNs.
June 11th: these are going slowly, but helped on by several hospital appointments I have about 6 rows left to do on the first sock. Only another sock to go!
June 27th: finally finished the first sock, having dropped stitches and had quite a lot of trouble getting back to the right place: note to self, don’t leave them mid row next time, and make sure you put them away safely, even if you’re in a hurry.
22 Feb 2010: I did quite a lot of the second sock while in hospital in September, I think only the toes really remain. I should get these finished!
3rd Jan 2011: I failed to do anything on these since last February. A friend challenged me on 29th December to finish them before the end of the year. I failed to pick them up in time, but started again yesterday and have at least finished them before I go back to work. Only just over 2 years in the making! Oops :)
