So I’m onto another Christmas jumper now, this time from the wonderful collection of patterns available in Vintage Gifts to Knit by Susan Crawford.

Working on the front at the minute. 169 stitches in 4ply wool! Wowzers it felt hard going to begin with, but now I’m onto the intarsia patterns it feels like its knitting up much quicker because I don’t stop until I finish the rows of the chart I’m using.

The first Christmas trees are appearing, and I’m aiming to have front finished by the end of the week.

The front is finished! Wohoo! Hard bit over! For anyone working on this pattern just remember to twist your two yarns together every time you are working intarsia style. In this case that’s for the reindeer.

Now I’m done with the front I can see it will definitely need blocking just to tidy up the edges of the fairisle and intarsia, but because I’m working with pure wool I’ll spray block rather than soak it.

Hope this helps anyone embarking on their first 4ply fairisle/intarsia pattern. By the way I am loving this jumper and very tempted to make one for myself :) xx

The front, back and one sleeve are finished!!! It’s getting there! The back shoulder shaping was a little tricky. It would have been good if the pattern had the instructions written out in full, because there is a fair bit of working out what is actually needed to be done, but I got there in the end! I’m going to work like a trooper to get this last sleeve finished now. I really want to get this junker finished by the end of the month. Here goes….

So finished it a week later than planned on account of running out of wool. I put this down to making the jumper longer than the pattern suggests because it does finish pretty short if you go by the pattern. Not to worry though it’s all done now with plenty of Festive time left to get good wear out of it for the season :)

Overall I’m happy with it. Love the sleeves and the moss stitch neckband. Working in 4ply does take sooooo long, so might reward my hard work by making a chunky jumper next :)
