FYI - I can see no reason to start the pattern with a provisional cast on for the center back. It makes more sense to me to start with a cast on at the shoulders instead…particularly since the author has you putting in shoulder seams for strength anyways. If you wanted to, you could even make those provisional for making a seamless join at the shoulders. So I would follow the directions for the right front and left front, but reverse the directions for the center back, eventually joining in the round as directed by the pattern. You can seam the shoulders anytime you like after that then.

Unblocked Gauge - Size 7 needles - 30 sts = 5.75” and 42 rows =5.5”

Blocked Gauge - Size 7 needles - 30 sts = 5.5” and and 42 rows = 5.75”.

My Gauge - Size 7 needles - 22 sts and 29 rows = 4”. 5.5 sts and 7.25 rows = 1”.

I adjusted the short rows a bit on the shoulder caps and didn’t much like them when I was doing them, but now that the piece is done, I’m very pleased. The whole thing looks quite tailored on him!
