We made Elizabeth’s wedding dress for her wedding last year. She looked stunning and it was a lovely wedding.

One of the great things about a knitted wedding dress is that you can redye it. This project is to dye and alter the dress so that Elizabeth can wear it to special occasions and parties.

I love things like this, providing a dress with a lifetime of wear, not just a one off.

The process begins with Beate setting off from the studio and handing the dress into the care of specialist dyer, Daniel, at Paint Box Textiles.

We’ll show you pics when it comes back!

…. ok…. we received a few quite terrifying pictures from the dyer showing the dress in the vat…

Then we picked it up and it was just great. The next image is of the dress dry but not pressed (which it will need to be before we alter it).

After that we had to cut off a section so that it becomes a short dress - that’s a scary moment! The unravelling edge is hooked back onto the machine and cast off properly so that it is secure. The dress is then finished!

But we haven’t stopped there. We’re turning the remaining section into a scarf and a tea cosy (the little swatches are tests of the unwound dress yarn knitted first and then also felted). Watch this space!
