Jan 25 - Finished the knitting on this project two weeks ago and then the entire family got flattened by plague, so I let it languish till I felt the will to live, er, make tassels.

Love the hat! I might try to felt it a bit as it’s a tiny bit big band relax the soy wool used in the tassels. It’s reclaimed, so it’s still all kinky.

The hat is comfy and warm without being hot.

Jan 4 - I’ve been stash-busting lately, so I was pretty excited to find this pattern which looked perfect for a skein of Recycled Sari Silk that had been rubbing up to my best stash for more about 5 years. I’m pairing it with a stray skein of Paton’s SWS that had a previous life as a single unfinished arm warmer and a neckwarmer/cowl.

I use a long tail cast on which, with a delicate yarn of limited quantity, can be a pain to use for casting on a lot of stitches. But, I came up with a brilliant solution: I tied the two yarns together and held them with one yarn on one side and the other yarn on the other side. I arranged the yarns so that the sari silk made a neat line along the edge and the soy wool created the stitch loops over the needle. That way, I could start the long tail cast on from the start of the yarn and not have to estimate a length. I feel so smart! :)
