I had wanted to make this for a while; but I never thought it would be so much FUN! And then when I found a way of presenting the bags it all came together, so I am very happy with this.
I have 3 children, so a lot of bags are needed! I early on opted for half calenders, i.e. 12 bags and then a second fill for the 2nd half of the month. The bags have different sizes, specifially some are bigger for some exceptionnally bigger treats. I don’t want these to be always on the same dates, so I opted for exchangeable numbers (wooden laundry pegs with the numbers, one color per child). I had already bought a bunch of small jute bags, so anything over 6 handknitted bags per child will be a victory. The support is wooden plant support from the garden center, embellished with glitter spray paint and simple cord all around.
Red & beige were the main colors (2 balls each for 1 ball of white), white more of a contrast color. It’s cheap and actually irritates the skin on the left hand where the yarn travels, but the effect is really pretty.
I bought a lot of this yarn before we went into the 2nd lockdown here in France, and I think I will use it for some other chrismas decoration - tree ornaments? a wrath?
All bags start with some 4 or 5 rounds of seed stitch followed by a ya, k2tog row for the holes.
CO between 22 and 36 stitches, almost all are done in the round. No two bags are the same!
