Notes

22nd June Started this Hana sweater today, it’s going to take me till Winter to finish it, but eh oh that’s ok.

I only have 10 balls of the R. Scottish Tweed, so hope that’s enough.

Side piece knitted separately, Knitting on an 18” (46cm) circular back and forth.

Wool + lace held together

Piece 1 - Back
Starting Chart’s 1 & 2 page 6 (both charts are only for 1 single row) rows 1 -20, you knit half the row from chart 1 and knit the rest of the same row from chart 2.

24th June - finished chart 1/2
Great when you get to know the symbols.

Piece 2 - Front is knitted sideways. Charts 3/4/5
Knitted the circle design for 12 rows, tinked back because it was far too thick and eating into my yarn.

26th June - Working on straight needles now and found a different pattern instead of the circles, will add these later on if I think I have enough yarn

29th june - finished charts 3/4/5

Piece 3 - chart 6 - 7, I do not have 4.5mm very long needles to accommodate lots of sts, so I am knitting the side piece separately and will attach with chain stitch. This means the pattern will be vertical and not sideways. wink

30th June - decided to block this 1st piece to see how big it grows.

Blocked to 17.5” wide x 22.5” long, will take a day to dry. There’s no side panel yet, knitting this separately

This is a very interesting journey, loving the challenge and the design.

I am loving the pink lace popping out of the Grey stitches, it gives the grey a bit of a boost.

8th July - finished side panel for the back piece
measures 8” wide (20cm) after blocking

9th July - Front very hot to knit DK wool, so progress is very slow

Can’t knit, too hot

Popping over to UK for 7 weeks to get out of the heat so this project will restart on 17th Sept.

Back on track now in Spain.

18th Sep - Front finished chart 1/2
Taking it slow because it’s still hot here. sunglassessunrise

27th Sep - started the front side panel, knitting this separately like the back, just have to see how it goes.
The pattern is straight up instead of sideways.

Side panel is CO,44sts, R1/2/3 - P, R4 - K, R5 - P, R5/7/8 - K, R9 - P, R10/11 - K, R12 Inc 4sts across = 48sts.

Next - R1, K6 pm, Chart 6 (13sts) pm, Chart 7 (10sts),
pm, Chart 6 (13sts), pm, K6.
follow charts for ? repeats till length required

I have knitted the circle pattern on the front, I didn’t knit this on the back because I didn’t think I would have enough yarn, looks like I have.

Undecided whether to knit the sleeves and just knit an oversize vest.
I have looked at projects and found some lovely ones.

4th Oct - soaking the last piece

Don’t think I have enough to knit the sleeves, so vest it is.

Chose Blacker Breed Shetland Light Grey 4ply for the seams and stitching

5th Oct - I am using the chain stich for the seams which is going to take a lot longer, but this sweater has been going on for months now so another week longer will be ok. wink

9th Oct - After sewing one side up and stitched the shoulder up I tried it on, and I thought it was a little short, so ripped back and knitted 10 more rows of each of the shoulder sections and shaped the neck as well.

I have layed it out and sprayed the 4 shoulder sections and pinned. Will Spray the neck and armholes when finished.

11th Oct - Neck - 4mm circular, picked up 102sts round the neck to neaten
k 4rounds, cast off

Sleeve cap, pick up 80sts 4mm circular, knit 4 rounds cast off

Only 1 ball Rowan left so not enough to knit the sleeves, which is ok with me because this is going to be worn over an oversize white shirt.

Finished size
Width underarm across the back 23.5” (60cm)
Length from shoulder to hem - 24” (61cm)

This sweater has just got the right amount of ease for wearing over tops.
Knitting the side panel separately allowed me to adjust the width to fit better.

24th Oct - Still too hot but wanted to wear it today if only for a short time. Will be super warm for Winter.

Had to take it off after 30mins lol.

Great pattern, love my Hana two_hearts
