I’ve always loved using the Granny Stitch. This pattern was a perfect way to use up scraps of yarn that weren’t really big enough to do much else with. I never made more than 2 rows of any given color. I put all my pieces into a bowl and whatever I pulled out went on next. The only exception was if I pulled out the same color 2 times in a row. Then I would pick a differant one out. Came out pretty! And I made it lapghan size, not full size blanket. Starting with a FSC (which I use almost all the time for the foundation row.)
