Notes

After reading all the notes and looking at pictures, I decided a good swatch would be worth it. I knit 10rows of 10stitches, measured it then felted it to my liking. It was reduced from 3.5X2.5 to 2.75X2.375.
Back row count: 68 rows to armhole, shape armhole, 40 rows for entire armhole, shape shoulder, 16 rows for neck.
Fronts: 68 rows to armhole, shape armhole, 34 rows for entire armhole, begin neck shaping for 6 rows, shape shoulder, 16 rows for neck.
Sleeve: 16 rows after tip shaping on cuff, 25 rows after final increase to sleeve cap shaping.

I washed it in a front loader on “short load” hot/cold, then again on “heavy load” hot/cold.

I found the sleeves perfect. However, the body length shrunk MUCH more than my swatch indicated - sigh. I was expecting a peacoat style and got a “to the hip” length jacket. The finished photo is missing buttons, which would be essential to wearing it. The fronts are so wide and heavy, they really need to have the buttons to keep the shape or they pull the front way down and the back pops out and up. I’m on the fence about keeping this - it would fit my sister who is my body double in every way except she’s about four inches shorter in the waist.

If I make this for me in the future, I will add a good six inches (or more!) to the body length and might make the sleeves as they are but the body more narrow (using a smaller size except for the length measurements). I found fitting the cap of the sleeve into the body a bit fussy and had to re-knit it. I would knit the armhole more precisely to fit the sleeves and knit the sleeves first as they really fit nicely in this one. I would also add some edging to the bottom - it curled and added to the tendency of the bottom to flair.

Did it turn out as I expected? No.
Will I make it again. Probably…no, definitely with mods. It’s a very cute and stylish jacket but not what I wanted. I’ll consider this my prototype and a gift for my sis and go order some more Cascade for my own :-)
