This has been a process…
I was designing something for an overseas friend when a co-worker asked if I could do something similar to a well-loved kufi he had worn out. I thought the crown design I came up with for my Scottish friend was a perfect start. Then I constructed a stretchy, lace brim for about four inches. I want it just right so am doing a bit of a sit and spin. So far, I’m on version #4. :-\

The blue/green one was okay but wool is a bit warm and not exactly right for next to the skin.
The 4h of July one was in mercerized cotton so smooth and cool enough, but I wanted 13 stripes so it was too long.

My friend tactfully mentioned it would be nice with less on the side, more like a skullcap. He had requested a hot pink October kufi. I used 6 repeats for the side instead of the previous 10 or 13 (for the stripes). He was pleased.
