I omitted the garter stitching on the button band and just knit plain. I added the tail in the center back using those extra stitches - super cute! I completed it simply with an applied i-cord around sleeve and sweater edges. The recipients are first-time parents and, although I had the PERFECT buttons, I suspected they might not appreciate them and cut them off. If they want the sweater to have closures, I’ll add a tape of snaps as the front overlaps about an inch.
