Love this sweater so much I’m wearing it with ends dangling and stitch markers still in place -- don’t want to take it off to weave in ends and block!
Wonderfully adaptable pattern. Love the texture and subtle patterning. I will wear this sweater until it’s a rag, I know!
Using #7 (4.5mm) Tunisian hook and F (3.75mm) regular crochet hook to get proper gauge. Gauge after wet blocking, thorough drying, and lots of handling: squares are 6.5cm on point, 4-square row is 24cm, height of triangle + 2 squares is 15cm. Working in metric for the designer.
Did not modify sizing, made a straight 2XL. Next sweater I might consider decreasing the front top just a bit (fits great across the back, and I love the sleeves, just a little big in the bust for me), and possibly do one increase for hips. I added length, and sleeves are a bit longer than average 2XL!
Sleeve rounds and decreases:
Rnd 1 -7 = 8x8
Rnd 8 = 8—>7
Rnd 9 - 11 = 7x7
Rnd 12 = 7—>6
Rnd 13 = 6x6
Rnd 14 = 6—>5
Rnd 15 = 5x5
Rnd 16 = even-up triangles
Sleeve trim:
After final triangles, no “turn, sc around.” Instead:
1) herringbone-hdc2tog around, starting in stitch already worked; slst join
2) ch 1, Rev-sc (Crab Stitch) around, invisible join
Button Band and bottom edge:
After working even-up row of triangles along bottom edge, slst join at bottom right corner of Button Band, do not cut yarn or turn, instead, rotate and work up front edge.
Row 1) sc2tog (starting in stitch already worked) along front right (7 sections of 9, 1 of 8, 1 of 7), neck (1 of 6, 2 of 5, 2 of 4, 3 of 3, work decreases along foundation triangles as [sc2tog, sc], then 3 of 3, 2 of 4, 2 of 5, 1 of 6), and left front (1 of 7, 1 of 8, 7 sections of 9), do not turn, just rotate.
Rnd 2) working along bottom edge, ch 1, herringbone-hdc, herr-hdc2tog (starting in stitch already worked) until bottom right corner, herr-hdc once more in same stitch; working along Button Band, ch 1, herr-hdc in edge of previous stitch (so look like working as if in rows), herr-hdc2tog (start in st already worked), increase at corner between “7” and “6” sections, then work decreases along foundation triangles (h-hdc2tog, h-hdc), continue to bottom left corner, herr-hdc2tog and herr-hdc in corner, fasten off.
Row 3 & 4) starting in bottom right corner, herr-hdc2tog (starting in st already worked) along Button Band, fasten off after Row 3, do NOT cut yarn after Row 4.
Rnd 5) ch 1, Reverse-sc (Crab Stitch) around, invisible join.
Blocked dims:
bust 50”
one front 14” ( button bands overlap quite a bit)
upper arm 16” circle
armhole depth about 11”
sleeve length (armpit to hem) 19”
sweater length
center back neck to hem 28”
shoulder to hem about 26”
armpit to hem 17”
Thoughts after blocking, for next sweater:
- one less round on sleeves (just a tad long -- love it!)
- start button band decreases at the corner that defines the V-neck, not just along the foundation triangles
- consider shaving the corner off the V-neck and add a shawl collar. Love a stitch pattern I just learned from Lena Fedotova’s email about her sweater Vatulele. Sc, ch 1, [sc2tog, ch 1] across, sc in last st -- worked as a one-row repeat the texture stacks, offset I think might be more interesting.
- a bit big in the bust for me, but the back fits well -- make the front a tad narrower, have to think on how.
- perhaps increase to next size entralac square for hips, maybe, maybe not.
