Notes

OMG I love this project, starting another right away!

16-08-2017

I had this in my queue to make for Marta. From ages ago I suppose, I don’t think she’s still playing role games… buuut I have a box going to her soon so I can as well? but I want one for us. So maybe I’ll make two.

I broke 10g off the HUGECONE for this project, wound it double. We’ll start with that.

Circular CO. My increases are loop increases.
I added silk yarn to the cord since this yarn would break otherwise.

Given needle size didn’t work well for me with this yarn, so I went down to 2.75, which is a lot smaller… the bag was turning too small so I am adding more stitches. To k4 p1.

I don’t feel like making the bag double layer, so before starting with the tentacles, I duplicated all sts in one rnd, and in the next I slipped the duplicates to a small circular needle and put them inside the bag, for later.

In order to minimise ends to weave in, I’m cutting them in half by joining a long tail to the next tentacle. I then use that tail to knit the next tentacle. This way there is only one tail at the tip of each tentacle and it should be enough to sew them down.

I kept the purl column in most tentacles and it gives an interesting texture.

I halfway through the black part, I changed to 3,25 needles because it was uncomfortably tight.

Before attaching tentacles or weaving in any ends, I’m blocking the whole thing on a polystyrene ball (7cm). I pinned the tentacles in place, some around googly eyes. I was thinking of going to the yarn store to get proper eyes, but googly eyes are fun! I may keep them. I used three sizes, but we’ll see once I sew the tentacles down.

19-08-2017

Today I unpinned the tentacles and glued on the eyes with fabric glue from Hema (it is rubber based). I also just realised that Marta’s favourite colour is blue, so I don’t know why I made this one with green. I will keep this one and make another in blue.

Some eyes fell off, the rubber glue remained well attached to the wool, but the eyes just popped off with no residue. I glued them back but they may fall off again. I can try another glue. But I have also ordered proper eyes online. We’ll see.

I used two large ones, two small ones, and a medium one.

I did not like the shape of the bottom and the eye was just sitting on top awkwardly, so I made the donut contraption that can be seen on the photos. Now the bag rests nicely on it.
