Notes

LOVED this project.

Modifications (details below and pictures)

Picked up sts for arms, also for tongue from pocket.
Put on zipper and pocket differently.
3 needle bind off a few sts for ears.
Added one row to all sections since I think my sts are more squat.

Mouth

CO for mouth not specified… I tried several things and I liked a crochet CO the best.

I sewed on the zipper (which is too long but I don’t see the problem with that, just stitched over the teeth with some yarn), to the mouth first, then stitched the fabric (black crepe) to the inside, hiding the yarn stitches. Finally stitched the sides of the pocket closed. The “bottom” of the pocket is thus not stitched, but just folded.

I knitted a tongue and then I lost it.

The next tongue, I picked up sts from the center of the pouch with a crochet hook and knitted from there. This tongue cannot get lost!

I double decreased at the centre on the last rnd before BO for a pointier tongue.

Arms

Not very clear how or where to sew the arms on, would have liked a side picture, but haven’t even found one in the projects. I don’t like sewing and I’m not good at it so I’m picking up the sts. I ended up picking them up a bit too far towards the back, I think, but oh well.

I picked up 10 sts in a bit of a silly way, from the inside… had to cut the yarn to pull it through to knit with it. Not sure there is any other way to do this (had to do the same with the tongue). Looks neat though.

I made two extra sts at the sides on the first rnd. Rnd 17, k2 instead of 7 for left arm, due to where my rnd is starting. k8 for right arm. Stuffed as I went.
I needed about 5 m for the one arm.
Grafted the end of the arms together.

Blocking

I decided to wash and block once I had the body minus legs. The arms were already stuffed. If I would make another toy, I would start with the legs bottom up, stuff them, do the body, knit the arms, then wash the whole thing and block with legs + arms stuffed. Blocking made a huge difference, and much easier to build the mouth when the fabric is not curling.

Eyes

Buttons ridiculously secure sewn on with very strong 5 strand silk and another button on the reverse side.
Embroidery with yellow cotton yarn.
I did this before stuffing and closing the head.

Ring

I decided to add a ring to be able to attach to a carrier etc so it doesn’t get lost. I crocheted around a plastic curtain ring, dropped 3 sts on the centre back four rounds, looped the ring in there and picked the sts back up (could be done while knitting I guess, don’t know if that would be easier or not).

Stuffing

Stuffed while I had head and bottom still open, with mouth already finished. I stuffed behind and in front of the mouth pocket so it remains centred inside the body.

Ears

I did a 3 needle bind off on 5 sts on each side to have more defined ears, center of head grafted as per pattern. It is not super noticeable but I like it.

Legs

Decreases:
1: (ssk, ssk, k2, k2tog, k2tog) X2
2: (ssk, k2, k2tog) X2
