What I did different:

BACK PIECE

Provisional CO
I am working to last 2 sts, placing a loop, work 1, loop, slpwyif. Then k the first st on all rnds (so this is the edge st).

I screwed up something during cast on and only got 15 sts / 51 sts but I don’t care.

Picking up from the provisional CO instead of CingO for the front piece.

FRONT PIECE

I tried a couple of alternatives but that didn’t work out, so when it came time to increase, I gave up my precious edge sts and followed the pattern.

BODY

The “Repeat dec every 2 cm” equals 6 rnds for me.

First ball was enough for up to 9 rounds into the ribbing.

The body seems a bit short, so I think I am just gonna add more ribbing rounds. And I am not doing the eyelets for the drawstring.

Total amount of ribbing rows: 17

FRONT PIECE (chest)

I’m making this plain. Also with an edge st. on each side.
I switched to 3,25 needle simply because I didn’t want to deal with the cables and I don’t have any 3mm straight needle.

Comparing with some bodies I have, it appears to be about size 62 (2-4 months). I was aiming for 6-9, so lol? but it will be spring/summer at age 2-4 so it’s fine I think. Also good because I though was tight on yarn, I now may have left over…

SHOULDER STRAP

My straps are 38 ridges, 19 cm unstretched and unblocked. They’re 9 sts wide with edge st on each side. The last two rows I decreased for a rounded edge:
K1, ssk, k3, k2tog, s1wyif
K1, ssk, k1, k2tog, k1
BO slipping the first st instead of knitting it

No buttonholes anywhere since I’ll use snaps.

Cuffs

My cuffs are in the round since I started with a provisional CO and the crotch is continuous.

Picked up sts from the RS, and increased to 60 on the first round (plain k). Then 2 x 2 rib. 17 rnds as well.

Conclusion

Only used two balls of yarn, haha! turned out small because, for the first time in my entire life, my gauge is tighter than necessary after going down only one needle size. This yarn is splitty, difficult to work with when working tight. It has a particular hand, a bit stiff like chained linen or something, it’s weird.

I decided to embroider a Totem on the chest. Because.
For my first attempt I used sock yarn held double. It was too thick and bulked, stiffened and puckered the knitting. I am glad I decided to remove everything and start over.

Using one and a half strands, it is a pain in the ass to split the yarn, but very worth it, and to use downward pointing Vs instead of upward pointing looks better as well. It fits the isometric motif so much better. Some half sts also help.

I also learnt it is best to weave in all ends as you go, or all the dangling bits will be split by later stitches and make a huge mess at the back.

The embroidery thread is Anchor perlé 5 colour 130.

I found two Austrian edelweiss buttons in the button box. My mother worked for an Austrian couple in the 70s and I remember these from her button box, but I don’t know if they come from some clothing. So well they were sort of perfect for this! despite the Totem ;)

Finished the embroidery this week, added snaps and blocked today.

I tried to sew on the eye in a way similar to how they embroider mirrors to fabric in India (there’s YouTube videos for that!). Seems pretty secure.

After it dried, I decided to line the back of the embroidery with a bit of fine viscose jersey. My hand stitching here is of course also inept :D

All in all very happy with this project.

So… It fits at 1 month old! Hahah :D

It’s not much the weather for it, at least without leggings underneath.

I removed the decorative buttons since baby is not mobile yet and they’re too bulky to lay on top of them.

I don’t think it’d fit over a cloth diaper.
