Notes

Cute pattern, but I think it needs some checking

06-03-2017

Magic CO in the round with one strand, joined a second strand for first rnd. Couldn’t get the first rnd tight so the nose is a bit pointy, but it’s allright since that is more realistic.

Not bothering with leaning increases since sts are not visible in this heathered yarn.

I think you have to begin stuffing much, much earlier than instructed… I also stuffed the tail a little bit.

For the tail decreases, I didn’t want so many decreases on the outside part, so I only did it on one rnd (83 I think) and then I just countinued rnds decreasing on the inside only until I had 4 sts left, which I grafted.

Picking up for flippers
Looking at a pic of a Right whale
2 mm
On the side (I think I have chosen the bottom of the pattern to be the top since it makes for a more realistic body shape) I looked for a placement I liked and picked up strands between columns. I knitted into these kfb, 8 sts total, then redistributed one on each needle and knitted in the round:

1-3: k1, m1, k to last, m1, k1: (increasing towards tail) 14 sts
4: k5, k2tog, ssk, k5 - 12 sts
5: ssk, k to last 2, k2tog - 10 sts
6: k
7: ssk, k to last 2, k2tog - 8 sts
8-9: k
10: ssk, k to last 2, k2tog - 6 sts
11: double decrease twice

Had to mirror for the left flipper.

Duplicate stitched light grey belly patch and barnacle patches in a light yellow.
Used black cotton yarn to define the mouth (couched down with black embroidery floss) and also for the tiny eye which is a french knot.
