For Passap knitters
How can one finish a toe-up sock with a cuff in 1:1 ribbing?
You can knit two sections of 1:1 ribbing, and close them with two seams like this:

  1. Start with at least one complete tour of stocking stitch, leave the sock hanging on the working needles on front bed and back bed, locks on the right.
  2. GX / HX, pusher in work under every second needle, turn ss number higher, e.g. to 6 if ribbing was ss 4
  3. With contrast yarn move locks from right to left, then cut the contrast yarn and with GX / GX move locks from left to right
  4. Change to orange strippers, turn ss down to your ribbing ss, e.g. 4, change to your main yarn, handle up
  5. Transfer contrast yarn stitches to their neighboring needles, you will finish with 2 stitches on every other needle on fb, leave these needles and their pushers in work
  6. Transfer every other stitch from backbed to frontbed onto the needles with pushers under them
  7. N / BX, knit as many rows as you need for your cuff, e.g. 20 rc
  8. The stitches from step 6 must be transferred back to bb now, change to black strippers, knit one row N / GX with main and a few rows with waste yarn and throw off
  9. Push the first ribbing section down between the beds, fb is clear of stitches
  10. Transfer all contrast yarn stitches to bb, but leave main yarn stitches where they are, make sure there is no crossing over and that you have the right needle setting for 1:1 ribbing, work slowly and carefully, as you do not want to drop stitches
  11. Remove the contrast yarn from bb stitches, again, work slowly and carefully, temporarily lower the fb for better sight if need be
  12. With N / N knit as many row as for your first section of ribbing, finish the second section just as your first one.
  13. Gather the stitches under the waste yarn to cast off by hand - very loosely - your cuff edge must be stretchy.
  14. Seam the two sections for a hose.

Of course, you can also knit a separate cuff and graft it together with your sock, advantages:

  • only one seam instead of two in the cuff
  • the cast-on edge looks more professional and usually is more stretchy than the cast-off by hand
