Just garter stitch a 24 inch square (more or less), and then crochet the two squares together. I crocheted all the way around at first because I couldn’t face the prospect of sewing in zippers. But when they got dirty enough to need washing (they spend a lot of time on the floor) I ripped out one side and sewed the zippers in by hand. Not difficult, but very tedious.
