Notes

8/9: Forgot to update. All done but for the washing and blocking. Pics to follow.

Last technical detail -- knit the sleeves by picking up stitches at the armhole and knitting down. Kept it simple -- just one little cable above the elbow and the same cable/rib at the wrist as the waist. Pattern all over was too busy -- tried it and took it out.

4/23: had to calculate how many stitches to pick up and knit. The original pattern called for 135 over 168 rows. I have 140 rows so I need to pick up 113 on each side or 226 total.

4/23: Making a few technical adjustments as I knit along. I picked up the stitches for the hood from the back neck instead of casting on and seaming it later. It was 2 stitches in each cast off. Because I am making this for a child, instead of 90 rows I worked 84, with the last 12 in the style of the bottom of the front and back.

I plan to seam the top edge of the hood by distributing the stitches onto two needles and doing a seam cast off on the wrong side. Then, I can pick up and knit the ribbed band in one piece, rather than having a seam at the top. Will look much better. I will take pictures as I go.

4/3: Part way up the front. Decided to carry the cables all the way up, contrary to the pattern, which has you stop part way up. Took some figuring, between the length and the cut out in the front for the hood, to make sure it would be ok, but it’s turning out just as I thought.

3/20: My daughter wants a cropped, cabled hoodie to replace a sweater I made when she was in nursery school that she is still wearing in sixth grade (to very different effect.)

So far, a smaller needle (7) and thinner yarn is producing a 32-34” bust. Fingers crossed!
