Started today, August 12. My first lace project, though otherwise a very experienced knitter. My, the big needles, tiny yarn is a bit different when trying to k2tog or SSK! I also agree with the other comments about the charting. There has to be a better way. I had to read it closely and use a highlighter to be confident in following it.

August 14. I feel as if this edging is not coming out lacy enough. Maybe I should be using a larger needle? But other knitters’ photos gives me some faith I should just keep going.

August 20. Bought a lace needle, spurred by others’ comments. It is definitely easier and gives a lacier texture. So I am taking out what I’ve done so far (about 1/3 of the lace edging) and starting again. No big deal, since it will be much easier to knit now and will come out better.

September 28. I finished a couple of weeks ago, but only this week got around to blocking. A couple of things about knitting. I did not bother weaving the last few stitches together. I just cast off and sewed. Not as beautiful but a reasonable trade off. Also, I ended up taking out the last row of the border (from the rows of garter.) It stuck out instead of making a smooth line. If you are still in process, you would garter three rows and cast off rather than four.

On blocking. Yes, it’s much better with blocking wires. But, my shawl did not naturally make those beautiful scalloped edges. I just went back and picked out just the points, put the wires back in, and reblocked.
