Pair seven in my yearly sock challenge of a pair a month. My overall aim with the project is to undertake either something new or challenging with each pair.

This months sock is the Arched Gusset sock - it has cables, lace, and is knit on the bias. I picked this out for the challenge of a new construction - I think it is an “upstream” architecture in Cat Bordhi terms. (I’m not sure though !)

I started these with JMCO magic loop switching to 20 cm circulars once the toe increases were complete.

Working this sock on a 20 cm Addi makes the pattern pretty straightforward. One of the most challenging things about this sock is the need to redistribute stitches (its written for magic loop) working on one needle removes the need to shuffle things around !

As my calves are chunky, I switched to larger needles (2.75mm/US 2) at row 1.. Still the last few rows are a bit snug. If you (like me) are on the juicy side, perhaps it may be necessary to change to a 3mm at or around row 49. I finished with a Russian bind off.

The yarn is CaribouBaa by indigodragonfly. The variety of tones in this yarn is amazing - the colours seem to shift and shimmer ever so slightly in front of your eyes. This colourway has the most amazing blueish-green undertone just like the patina on zinc. I love it.
