I had promised Gemma a handknit for new baby due in June, once we had decided on “Born at Sea” as the pattern, Dreamboat seemed a logical choice in terms of yarn weight, texture and colour. Also - I’m sentimental about the name of the colourway being thematically matched to the pattern name (yeah I know)

As I had more yardage than called for in the pattern, and I prefer a rectangular blanket, I worked 9 full pattern repeats rather than the suggested 6.

Prior to blocking the vertical edges were pulling /rolling quite significantly. Thankfully after a bath in Soak handwash and a good stretch out on the blocking mats the curl has been eliminated.

The main blanket pattern is a fancy wide rib of sorts, so it pulls/gathers in lots prior to blocking. The finished effect of the pattern could vary greatly depending on how aggressively you like to block ( I like to stretch LOTS !) Prior to blocking the pattern has more of a waffle texture pattern and is much more dense - no less pretty but quite different pre and post blocking.

Final measurements 67 cm x 94 cm
