This sat as a UFO for quite some time as I hate seaming and the front and back need to be seamed before the sleeves can be picked up and knit. I’m so glad I rescued it from the UFO pile though.
The yarn is Scuba Merino from the Knit Kit Co. It is very lightly spun so incredibly soft. I fell in love with the vintage “Ducky Egg Blue” colour as a partner for this lacey design.
Speaking of lace, the birds eye lace stich (used to form larger more structures holes in lace) has always been one of the stitches I have found challenging. The lace isn’t hard in this project, but I found that it did take quite a lot of concentration. Its not a TV knitting project, but if you are looking to get lost in knitting for a while it is perfect.
The shoulders were worked with short rows and a three needle bind off which gives lots a flexibility, even so, I had to rework the boat-neck several times. I used a 4.5mm to pick up and cast off and it is still on the tight side.
The lace pattern can be blocked out in this design to give a more airy look, but this will also increase the size. I’ve only blocked very lightly so it has a small amount of positive ease, but it is my plan to stretch out this piece as she grows!
