Notes

Crocheted, mash-upped, dyed, worn, dipped, washed & gifted - if this shawl could talk!

Story of the gifting here.

What has the spine of a Tess, the body of a linen-stitch, and the feathers of a Klamath? Could it be a Hallowe’en Tiger? Overdyed with blue now.

I love this - it blocked out huge but is still nice and stretchy.

I really like this mashup of patterns. I hope to make it again with better yarn.

Overdyeing March 22/12

  • soaked shawl in warm water for a couple hours
  • mixed 1/4 oz. of Sky Blue Wilton’s with 1 cup of boiling water.
  • mixed dye water with large pot of cold water
  • squeezed all water possible out of shawl and put it in the dye water pot
  • gently heated on stove
  • added 3/4 cup of vinegar total, diluted with hot water, at 3 intervals of 5 to 10 min. as water heated to 170 degrees F., stirring occasionally
  • kept for 30 min. at 170 degrees, until dye water was clear
  • slowly cooled pot to room temp.
  • rinsed shawl in room temp warm water, washed with shampoo and rinsed with hair conditioner

Needed a project for mindless non-thinking times. I like this linen stitch, and wanted a triangular shawl instead of a rectangle. Used the feather and fan border from Klamath.

For the body, used sc instead of dc, and hdc instead of tc.
To maintain shape, alternate;

  • 2 rows of smaller increases; increased 1 sc on each edge and each side of centre, with
  • 1 row of larger increases; 1sc, 1ch, 1sc on each edge, and 1 sc increase on each side of centre.

After 6 rows of plain sc, started linen stitch (1 sc, 1ch, sk 1 st, 1 sc, then on subsequent rounds, 1 sc into ch sp, 1ch, sk 1 st, 1 sc)
- found in swatching that this yarn looked better in linen stitch than in plain sc, plain dc, lacy stitches, or granny stitch

March 9 - Got a lot done while at a friend’s house. Linen stitch is perfect for socializing and tv-watching crocheting.

March 10 - finished 3 skeins with linen stitch. Started feather and fan border from Klamath.
March 14 - done. Took 3 skeins to do 8 rows of feather and fan with 8 rows sc. Ran out of yarn about 4” from end, so finished with some other Kroy sock. Sewed in the ends. It’s soaking right now.

March 15 - medium soft blocking it now. Used my new foam kneepads - sweet!
