WolfCrochet used the beautiful Stem and Petal Stitch for body. An easy 2 row repeat, that makes lovely 8 petalled star flowers. See CHARTS here for the body stitch - a 13 stitch pattern repeat plus 6 (plus 3 for turning chain), and the lace border - a 10 stitch pattern repeat plus 1.

My mods
Project for the May CAL in Crochet Shoulder Wrappers. Everyone welcome! ~~~~~~~~~
The designer says it could be made in a heavier weight than fingering, and “If it seems too long, the pattern to begin is a multiple of 13 plus 9, so just reduce your number of chains accordingly. You could also work few rows.”
I measured one of my pashminas; 66” seems like a good length for a rectangular shawl for me, while 80” long is a bit too long for me.
I will draw the pattern out in more detail with the lace border - which is a 10 stitch pattern repeat.
This would make a gorgeous scarf too - nice 10” wide scarf width in fingering with 2 1/2 pattern repeats, or 9” wide lace scarf with 3 1/2 pattern repeats.
Heavy FINGERING: Allow 600 to 700 yd. fingering to make the shawl in 13 x 60” size.
(NOTE: with my tension, a 5.0 mm. hook and this heavy fingering, I estimate that making this shawl as written would be 92” long.)
Guesstimate that shawl in 13 x 60” size would take 468 yd. of fingering weight yarn. (Calculations: 64” square or 8” square swatch with 5.0 mm. hook took 11 gm. of yarn = 43 yd. = 0.6 yd of yarn per square inch. So 13 x 60” square shawl is 780 square inches, so approx. 468 yards of fingering). Estimate seems low.
FINGERING Guesstimate #2: Swatch with lace border pins out to 10” x 11.5” = 115 square inches. This took 65 yd. of yarn (measured by hand, not weight). This works out to .57 yd. of yarn per square inch, very close to the last swatch.

Heavy LACE WEIGHT:
9 x 12” swatch = 72 square inches & 14 gm. = 86 yards. = 1.2 yd. per square inch. So to make a 13 x 60” shawl would take approx. 780 yd. of heavy lace weight.
(NOTE: with my tension, a 5.0 mm. hook and this heavy lace weight, I estimate that making this shawl as written would be 63” long after blocking.)

April 23 - Colrain Lace, 4.0 mm Boyes hook. started with 344 fsc (instead of 295 ch, which equals 292 ch plus 3 turning ch), which is an extra 4 pattern repeats, then did 3 turning chains. 344 fsc measured 82” while trying not to stretch. Did part of row 1.
May 5 - on row 33 at about 12” deep and 62” long unstretched. Used 122 gm. of yarn so far, or about 755 yd.
May 6 - finished row 35. Will check tomorrow if it will be wide enough blocked, or to add another repeat.
May 16 - blocked and wore it today. Yay!!!
