I made this shawl for my Aunt who was going through chemo and radiation for a spot on her lung. For those that are curious the treatment worked and she is doing as well as she can be.

Anyway, she loves blue and I had a ton of this Simply Soft left from a frogged project. I also had the idea to hold the blue yarn double with some silver cobweb weight yarn that I had for the edge of the shawl. Thus the name ‘Silver Linings.’

I wanted the shawl to be symbolic so I chose the edge as hearts to surround her with love. Then I chose the Tiger’s Eye pattern for the center because it reminded me of the song and made me think of that scene from Rocky. It made me think of fighting (Rocky) and strength (tigers). Plus, it’s a beautiful lace pattern. Then of course I wanted the edge to be silver to remind my Aunt that there can always be a silver lining in any situation if you look hard enough.

It took me months to make this shawl but it was well worth it. She loved it! And she wore it to her chemo and radiation since it’s cold in the hospital. She also brought it out with her everywhere because she got cold easily with her weakened immune system. That’s my Aunt in the second picture being silly and wearing the shawl on her head like a babushka.
