08-24-2018 - Day One

Day One of build - two hours of playing with designs and armature.

And so it begins

08-26-2018 - Day Two

Spent part of the day tightly double wrapping all surfaces with black merino (Aran weight.)

Occasionally running the merino through itself and tacking it hard to hold the wrapping.

Time : 3 hours

08-28-2018 - Day Three

Wrapped chest, head, legs, and body with pencil roving.

Started needle felting some basics into the face for eye and horn placement.

Time: 1 hour 45 minutes

08-29-2018 -Day Four

Played with a new made up technique to work on the wings.

Not all ideas are great… back to the drawing board.

Also broke TWO 2 два needles.

Time spent: 1 hour

08-30/ 31-2018 - Days Four and Five

Worked on horns. Filed down the rough sections, filed full claw, and made sure the drilled holes worked. Primed 8 with grey base and coated 2 with final top coat of black.

Combined time over both days - 1 hour and 30 minutes.

09-01/03-2018

Spent the holiday weekend fine tuning the horns.

Finally got the right pattern and the right paint job completed - using a Morse pattern and a metallic pen. Sealed the horns with two layers of clear topcoat.

Patterns for code in photos.

Final total of hours: 6 h of trial and error (and repainting and refining and … )

09-05/06-2018 Days Nine and Ten

Attached the horns with copper jewelry wire and started coated with the Merino Wool Roving in Dark Wine. wine_glass. Used all but a pinch of the ounce.

Worked the deep sockets for the eyes and started building up the heavy eye ridges that I want.

9/5: three hours in the wee hours

9/6: two and a half hours.

09-09-2018 Day 11

Started working on a coat of Romney wool roving in Red Rapture over the whole body, added a hidden token, and worked on building up the height on the back of the dragon.

Braided a long section to run down the back of the neck, across the back in ridges, and then in a sinewy path down the tail.

Applied two hankies in the red of top of the braid and body to help really tack the work in place.

There is beginning to be a nice depth in color.

Total time : 3.5 hours

09-10-2018 - Day 12

Add two layers of black silk for the breast plate and worked some black around the eyes with a bit of Angelina.

Cleaned up the tail. And stabbity stabbed stabbed everything

Time spent: 2 hours

09-12-2018 Day 13

Worked on the eye ridges and tightened up the felting to the tail. Also felted another silk wing and did a quick hot water wash of both wings.

Waiting for them to dry

Time: 2 hours

09-13-2018 Day 14

Spent time building the left wing. One the silk felted squares from Day 13 was put on the from of the wing.

Carded some Red Rapture, Candy Apple Red, and a dash of corriedale in Seal from LaugjingLamb Fibers. Place the carded section on the back of the wing.

Still not fully felted but coming along nicely.

Time spent: 2.5 hours

09-15/16-2018 - Day 15 &16

Worked on the second wing, more detail rushing in the face, and wrapped the shoulders to the wings on black silk on both wings.

Added the fortune into the neck of the dragon.

Total hours across the weekend : 8 hours

Also. Broke another needle.

This dragon is a Slayer of Needles

09-17/22-2018

this last week has been a blur.

I spent time felting the wings and adding girth to the body. A large amount of time was spent tightly felting up the tail and working in the details on the back.

more time was spent on adding brow ridges to the eyes, adding shading to the face, and using the finer details to the face. I left in the graying to show how the smoke has worked on the dragon.

I added the eyes towards the end of the week and think I finally learned a trick to applying the glue and getting the eyes in without a sticky incident.

I kept track of the hours each day - if I didn’t keep betterr records on what happened when smile

9/17 = 3 hours

9/18 = 5 hours

9/20 = 6 hours

9/21 = 2 hours

9/22 = 2 hours

sending a kit with the dragon to show how it is made smiley
