I named this cardigan for the Paul Kelly song “Hope is a thing with feathers” (originally from an Emily Dickinson poem) as this knit was the first thing I cast on for my baby during pregnancy. I listened to this song just after I found out some good news during our 12 weeks scan.
At our 10 week scan we were told our baby had exomphalos - his organs were growing in a sack outside of his body and that the outlook wasn’t good. We were advised to wait two weeks and then have another scan to see if it had resolved itself or if we needed to consider “other options”…
Thankfully and unexpectedly, it had resolved itself and he was growing and developing normally! When I got home later that day I decided to cast on a project for my baby (something I hadn’t done yet as I was too scared that it wouldn’t be).
