Notes

My friend Maria requested a hat with earflaps for her new baby. I did a provisional cast-on for the earflaps so I could add some I-cord tassels afterward, which is why that pale yellow yarn is there in the second picture.

When I tried the hat on the actual baby, the earflaps came down approximately to his clavicles. (A disadvantage to having babies with 99th percentile heads is that you have no idea how to knit for a baby with a 25th percentile head.) To remedy the shoulderflap situation I picked up the stitches about 60% of the way down the flaps and decreased sharply, starting the I-cord from there. So the provisional cast-on idea didn’t turn out to be very useful, but I think the hat will fit now.
