Notes

I’m branching out from my usual hats and scarves and making a wrap!.

This is the first Chandi (Expression Fiber Arts) pattern I have attempted and it was a lot more challenging than I expected. The pattern is 40 rows and I found myself needing to follow each pattern line quite closely (and I had lots of mistakes along the way). The pattern is quite beautiful, but after finishing the first 40 rows, I decided to make it a bit easier on myself.

I ended the 40 row pattern and followed it with 6 rows of garter stitch. Then I added in a simpler pattern for the middle parts of the shawl -- taken from “Easy Lace Scarf” by Verna Chan. Her pattern was a 6 row repeat, and even on this easy lace pattern I was making mistakes and not getting my stitches lined up correctly.

So after 6 repeats of the easy lace pattern, I ended this pattern and followed it with 6 rows of garter stitch (plus one offset extra garter row).

I followed the second lace pattern with a 28” section of stockinette as the middle part of the wrap.

I finished the wrap by doing both patterns in reverse -- 6 sets of the the easy lace pattern (broken by 6 rows of garter), and then the 40 rows of the Dream Glow pattern.

I’m so happy with how it turned out and my Mom was thrilled to receive it as a Christmas gift.

Many thanks to my fellow knitting friend Hannah (red Christmas sweater) for modeling it for me before I wrapped it up as a present for my Mom.
