Notes

Found a pdf in the Internet Archives showing that the pattern had been one of Annie’s free patterns. If Ravelry is correct, and the 1997 copyright was to the Needlecraft Shop, that was a part of Annie’s. I ordered a used copy of the Hooked on Crochet! magazine that this pattern appeared in and found that Hooked On Crochet! was published by the Needlecraft Shop.

At least one Ravelry member used corner to corner rather than row by row, and I like the way it looks.

I made use of the graph by printing it off larger than shown in pattern, making several copies and taping them together. I cut off the row that had only gray blocks, and ended up with a graph that had 4 rows in the top section, 5 rows in the next 3 sections and 4 rows in the bottom section. I taped 10 of these together, but that resulted in a larger blanket than I meant to make. I did cut off several cross-ways rows after realizing it was extra large. I did not take off any width.

I hate messing up; seem to need to go back 3 rows when I do.

It’s turning out larger than I thought--over 75” wide and 90” plus in length, so I’m stopping length increases.

The border is from the pattern for Race Car Throw. A bit over 2 skeins of Turqua in the border!

I used an I hook for the body of the afghan, an H hook for all but the last row of the border, and I used a G hook for it.

This one was hard and took a lot of time. I’m sure it would have been easier had I watched the measurements more closely and made it smaller. The color changes--dealing with all the balls of yarn--are very time consuming. I used mesh bags and stitch markers shaped like safety pins to attach the bags to the blanket. To make several squares in a row I would remove the balls and put them in a plastic jar so they could unwind easily.
