Notes added about making the new Wonder Woman crown and armbands.
CLASSIC CROWN AND ARMBANDS:
My daughter requested these based on this pattern. I used notes from a person who had made an adult sized version of the above pattern.
For adult size hats I stop increasing or do bottom start at 60 stitches for small, 64 for medium, and 68 for large.
I used the hat size I normally use for my daughter for the number of stitches I started the crown with--60 or 61 (she wears headbands around the lower back of her head under her hair, then up to forehead). I made 4 rows of sc before starting the notes for adult size. On the 5th row in the center of the row I put 3 hdc in one stitch. On the 6th row I put 3 hdc’s in the first hdc from row 5, then 3 dc’s in the middle hdc, and 3 hdc’s in the 3rd hdc. I added a row of sc and shaped the point a little.
I used the star from Priscilla Hewitt’s 4th of July Fridgies pattern.
For the cuffs I measured my wrist and used that for the large end of the band (25 stitches), then I decreased 1 stitch every 5th row:
4 rows 25 sc
4 rows 24 sc
4 rows 23 sc
4 rows 22 sc
4 rows 21 sc.
They take a bit of wrestling to get on, but fit my daughter well.
NEW CROWN AND ARMBANDS:
I also made another set of the newer crown and armbands which is based on a photo of the new crown and of a crochet set which was sold on Etsy in 2016 my daughter found online. Because there is no pattern at all for the second set, I am including it here.
For new headband/tiara I chained hat size plus 1 ch. Did 1 row hdc, then 2 rows hdc back loop only with 3 hdcs in center front chain of second row and in 3rd row dc’s in 4 chs before center front, 3 tr in center front, and dc’s in 4 chs after center front.
To make bottom of headband have point, started new row of sc into center 9 sts of bottom row, then decreased at start and finish of each row to one stitch at point.
For V section to attach I chained about 29 chs, dc’d into 5th ch so could square up (this edge is rounded when I dc into 4th ch), did total of 4 dc’s, 4 hdc’s, 4 sc’s, then ss’d into 2nd ch after 4th sc to make point, then 4 sc’s, 4 hdc’s, 4 dc’s, pinned strip on and sewed it down. Then did star with 4 straight lines, X first, then vertical line, and ending with horizontal line.
For new armbands I chained 22, sc into 21 stitches, did two rows of crown color (all sc, ss to join), then 16 rows gray sc, increasing from 21 stitches to 24 stitches with inc every 4 rows of gray. Then on 17th row gray put 3 sc’s in middle front stitch. 1 row crown color, 3 sc’s in mid-front stitch, 1 row gray 3 sc’s as past 2 rows. For crown color trim rows I started in about 4th stitch from the center and did sc’s around to approximately the same position on the other side. I cut yarn and started another row of CC over the first one. I used surface crochet slip stitches to make V. For triangular shape on wrist end I ch’d 6 or 4, then 1 row of 5 or 3 sc’s, making point by decreases each row end as going up to one stitch last row. Then I sewed shape on.
I got the first headband I made of the lighter gold a little small, but okay for 3 year old Maycee, who wore it with her Wonder Woman shirt; she insisted on putting it on herself and choosing the direction for the point. I made more adult sized ones.
The Terra Firma cotton yarn looks like bronze, so made a newer crown and armband set with it.
