Notes

Knit the 54½“ version because I didn’t want 16” of positive ease and I’m glad I made that choice. The finished product is lovely and drapey without being too baggy.

Modifications

Needle size: used US7/8 rather than US6/7 needles because my swatch was knit more densely than the specified gauge.

Sleeves

  • Picked up four extra stitches because I’d read that the arm holes were a bit tight; this doesn’t change the size of the arm hole itself but makes the sleeves a little more roomy. Most other people compensated for this by adding two extra rows to the gansey pattern on the body, but naturally I didn’t see that suggestion until after I was done the body.

  • Did one extra decrease round.

  • Knit the sleeves an extra inch longer than specified. This wasn’t strictly necessary as the sleeves blocked a little longer than anticipated, but I’m glad to have the length.

Next Time

  • Would use the Coco Knits neckline tutorial for the neck shaping.

  • This yarn isn’t quite as light as it looks in the pattern photos. It’s more of an oatmeal colour than a cream colour, which is fine but not what I was expecting when I ordered it.
