This definitely wound up more 3 dimensional than I initially planned for… I actually spent a really long time working on the base of wrist cuffs using Celestial Cuffs by Mary E Rose and fingering weight cotton, but it was just way too slippery and I don’t think dense enough either in my knitting or in the doubled strands to wrap around the knits to get good coverage… so I dove into my bin of bulkier acrylics and converted the pattern to a coffee cup cozy. If I repeat the experiment (especially on a stretchy cup cozy) I might try it with a wide but flat/thin ribbon yarn as the accent, perhaps? Or as something that doesn’t need to be stretchy/so flat.
and inside… I actually took my accent yarn, guesstimating yardage and let the center of it lay between the two halves of the motif then worked each tail up one half of the design as I went. Mary E. Rose links to a roositud tutorial that she wrote and it didn’t give this idea, but it seemed the thing to do for this particular design as I couldn’t imagine having the floats span all 13 side stitches of the design and why not weave in 2 less tails when splitting it in half?
I also feel inclined maybe to use a duplicate stitch in the center of the motif from my scraps, after I sleep ;) Not part of the design but it just feels right for some reason, will see if it works and share if it looks decent!
