I warped 6 repeats of the 14 end warping pattern by Melanie Smith on a pair of 7.5dpi heddles on my 24” rigid heddle loom, with 2 additional warp ends (by accident) on one end. This totalled 86 ends.

I then wove the zig zag by weaving Shaft # 1 = back heddle up, Shaft #2 = front heddle up, Shaft #3 = both heddles down, and repeating the 3 step sequence throughout (starting with #10 crochet thread for the folded hems, then working with the worsted weight cotton for the length of the towel.

For the diamond motifs I wove shafts numbered 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1 and repeated for the length of the towel.

The small gaps between segments of the warp pattern made by the skipped slots and holes filled out with washing and drying the woven fabric and should fill in more with a few more washes. The end result is a soft, fluffy, and drapey towel.

This was my first time using a double heddle on my loom… I’d recommend using a warp that is easier to see against your heddles and table for the first try, though! My eyes were a little overwhelmed and I did accidentally twist one single pair of warp threads and didn’t notice it until I had already added spacers and waste yarn to start weaving. It only effected shaft #2, requiring me to manually lower or slip over a single thread on those picks, which was simple enough because it was near the edge!
