Catan Themed Blanket for my Dad’s birthday/Father’s Day, based on The Groove Blanket by @alysecrochet

For around 2 years now my parents have been doing weekly @settlersofcatan nights on Sundays, and this year I learned how to play & we began hosting it in our new kitchen.

I loved this swirling hexagonal blanket the moment that I saw it, and then my brain went… oooh I can make it into a Catan blanket!

I also love the sensory feedback for him, in particular. The pattern adds 3d finger width (in worsted or aran yarns) channels along the outside edges of each hexagon wedge and a 3d border, while the backside is smooth… Making it a great fidget blanket on one side and seamless feeling blanket on the other

I chose an array of colors to match one wedge each for the mauve/red Hills/Brick (with brushed clay colored yarn), lime Pastures/ Sheep (with shallow puffs in the flecked white yarn), grey Mountains/Ore (with a variegated grey added in), golden Fields/Wheat (with occasional brown shaded lines), dark green/brown Forests/Wood (with a little tan for the lumber), and the tans and browns of desert. Matching up with the colors in the hexagonal game tiles and their associated resource cards. All with a buff desert-toned border… like on the game board.
