Using bits of Marius charts from the book to knit mittens in bulky yarn.

1. CO 28 stitches using k2, p2 long tail cast on. (red)

2. Knit 2x2 ribbing in red for 8 cm

3. Inc to 32 stitches

4. Knit 1 red, 1 white round

5. Knit 2 white rounds, inc to 36 st on the second round

6. Knit the XOX chart in white / red (repeats over 8 st)

7. Knit 2 rounds white, 1 round red

8. K 1x1 red/blue round

9. K 2 rounds navy -- on top of the first navy round, make provisional thumb cast on over 8 stitches,

10. Knit diamond chart in white/navy (repeats over 12 st), end with 2 rounds navy, 1 white, 1 round 1x1 navy/white, 1 round white (the top band), 1 round navy

11. Knit 1x1 red/navy round, decreasing to 32 stitches.

12. Switch to all-red and start top decreases, initially by 4 stitches every 2 rounds. Make sure to position the decreases correctly in relation to the thumb opening.
