Notes

09/15/2021 - I signed up for 2 bears this year for The Cincinnati Salvation Army Toy Shop Auxiliary. This one will be an Arthur bear. I found appropriate yarn from stash for the sweater :) I’ll be making a white shirt and pair of denim pants to go with the outfit. I’m basing the outfit off of Arthur Turns Green (Classic Arthur Adventure) book that I will secure to the bear.

So my modifications below are a combination of what I did and what I would do differently should I make this again. I’m thinking about formally writing the instructions up for a pattern some time this winter… but till then, these are my REALLY rough notes.

Modifications

  1. I knit the body in the round, then split the work for the armholes & neck. I cast on 109 stitches. (55 stitches for the front, 54 for the back)
  2. I did 5 rows of 1x1 ribbing for the hem.
  3. I knit 18 rows of stockinette instead of the cable pattern for the body.
  4. For the Top Back: bind off 3 stitches at the beginning of row 1, k51. turn work. row 2 bind off 3 stitches, k48. continue in stockinette till row 15. Row 15 knit to 2 stitches before end of row, w&t. purl to last 2 stitches of row, w&t, knit to 4 stitches before end of row, w&t. purl to last 4 stitches of row, w&t, knit to 6 stitches before end of row, w&t. purl to last 6 stitches of row, w&t. Row 21 pick up stitches as you knit, Row 22, pick up stitches as you purl.
  5. Top Left Front: knit to 1 stitch before center stitch, leaving single stitch at CF neck for neck edge.
  6. Top Right Front:
  7. Neck Edge: Starting at the left shoulder seam, pick up and knit 18 stitches, pick up CF stitch, pick up and knit 18 stitches along right neck. Start 1x1 ribbing across 26 stitches from back neck. Knit 5 rows of 1x1 rib, doing slip 2 knit 1 PSS over (Center Double Decrease) at CF for every row.
  8. Sleeves: Starting at what would be the side seam, picked up 34 stitches around the armhole and knit 14 rows. Then I did 5 rows of 1x2 ribbing before I did a bind off.
